Product Description

The new Badlands Upland Bird Vest carries better than 90% of the packs on the market. It's still as light as a standard vest and offers the versatility of ump-teen pockets for "the most effective layout ever." While the Badlands Upland Vest does not come with a water bladder, it offers full hydration capabilities - just add your own. It has a fully breathable internal lining, a welded waterproof rear compartment, and the easiest bird access ever developed. The Badlands Upland vest is very hard to call it just one name, when it does the task of so many. One size fits most.

Why we like it here at Uplanders:

Capacity, Capacity, Capacity.  You can fit so much in the Badland Bird Vest, more than just about any other vest we sell.  When you put this vest on and strap it tight, the weight goes from your shoulders to your hips.  You can "feel" that Badlands is a company that took its backpack technology and put it into a vest.  Check you the video below to see more about what we are talking about.

  1. Well made but not for me

    Posted by Airmedic1 on 12th Oct 2013

I have tried a bunch of different vests and really like the looks of this one in the store. I got it home and it didn't fit right since I'm 6'4" tall. I couldn't get the waist belt down on my hips where it belongs and it was awkward to try to access the shell pockets. I've used the old Mothers vests, the old Pella Bird N Lite vest, a Camelbak vest and this one fit the worst of all. I didn't take it hunting, I took it back. The reason I gave it two stars was the quality of the vest. It was really well made and might work for someone shorter.

  2. Great pack

Posted by NZhunter on 11th Jul 2013

I've tried a variety of vests/packs/jackets and never found on that I liked but I love the Badlands Upland Vest. It's very comfortable and can carry a solid load. It doesn't interfere with mounting the gun and despite my ability to constantly wreck gear, it has held up beautifully.

I had 2 modifications made to it immediately. I had the shell loops restitched so they securely hold 20 ga shells and I had a strap sewed across the left shoulder strap and an elastic loop sewed around it so I can clip my e-collar transmitter on the strap and the elastic holds it in place. It has worked brilliantly.

  3. Badlands vest

I love the Badlands Upland Bird Vest but 2 major issues. Shell loops are no good. I added plastic ones to the waste belt. I also cut off all the mesh pockets because they snag on every fence and brier. Overall quality and comfort is good.

  4. Now it’s the rating is 5 out of 5.

    Posted by Moxie1109 on 11th Jul 2013

Rating: 4 out of 5 as ordered.
My Badlands upland vest is now in the second year of use. After the initial use I made some modifications in ensuing field trips even though I new it would void the warranty.
1st - I lengthened the shoulder straps making them adjustable as I am 6’4 and the vest only came half way on my ribcage not my hips.
2nd - I added black elastic pocket over 4 of the 5 shell loops because the elastic loops were are to large even for 12 gauge shells. The front one on each side I left the same and use them when I unload between fields.
3rd - I cut a slit in the left front strap for the transmitter antenna and added a quick release clip to the bottom to hold it in.
4th - I constructed a leather shot gun butt holder and attached it to the right lower strap adjustment for those long walks in the field. It keeps the barrel pointed up and in easy reach on a flush plus more comfortable to carry.
5th - I added a clips to hold the Badlands hydration reservoir in place so there is plenty of water for me and the dog.

Now it’s the rating is 5 out of 5.

It has lots of pockets for plastic bags, game license, lip balm, bird knife, shooting glasses, gloves, dog treats, tweezers to remove sand burrs/goat heads, TP, and ibuprofen not to mention the large bird bag slides back for easy entry from either side easily holds the daily limit.

With a few mods this vest pack comes highly recommended

  5. Not So Good

Posted by jk on 11th Jul 2013

The elastic loops for shells in the front are no good, I lost a number of 12 gauge shells in the field before realizing. Anything smaller than 12 gauge will not even fit. I sent it back to the manufacturer and it came back more or less the same (they tried to tighten the loops by stitching over them). I just don't put the shells there anymore. Each side pocket can not carry more than five or six 12 gauge shells. Overall disappointed.

  6. Great Vest

Posted by Keola on 11th Jul 2013

This Badlands vest is a great upland vest/pack. I used to use a Cabelas vest with cargo back pocket for bird catch. I have a few Badland packs and I love them all so when I saw this one for upland I decided to buy one for me and my hunting partner. I used it for the first time this last weekend and was really impressed. Very light, comfortable, non sweaty. Could be a little larger but it works just fine, in fact you could probably do mammal hunting with it as well since there are enough pockets and storage although I am not sure you could support the load of a 180lb boar in the back but it would be fun to try. Great vest pack highly recommended.
